The Bells

The ring of eight bells was cast by John Taylor of Loughborough in 1910 and is set in the key of F. They were a gift from Miss Catherine Anthony, formerly of The Grove, Caerphilly, who was a great benefactress of the Church. The bells are named after members of her family.

New gudgeons and ball bearings were fitted in 1946, greatly improving the ease and handling of the bells. In 1982 the clappers were refurbished and in 2006 new pulley boxes were installed.

While first-time and indeed more frequent visitors never fail to be impressed by the spacious ringing room and the ease of handling, by far the greatest impression is made by the quality of sound from the bells, which are considered by most ringers to be amongst the finest in South Wales.

Translation
Melodius is the ringing of praise
My voice is to the sons of men
It is good to praise the Lord
I will ring to God while I live
I will praise thee o God
Let all his sons praise him
My clapper will ring loudly of thy justice
I ring the living to Church and summon all to the grave
